CHAOS HAS COME

AND MY GRAPHICS CARD HAS SUCCUMBED TO THE WARP! IT SHALL BE PURGED

Really, how the fuck does this happened? The top of my graphics card literally warped up and disconnected at some point. I.. don’t know what to do with it really. :|

In other news. Quit Rift. Again. Infernal Dawn was a huuuuge /yawn. I could barely pull myself through the last two weeks of raiding with my guild after I informed them I would be going. No loss there, not much regret either. I tried my damnedest with that game, I really did, but it just got too much, I’m not going to pay $15 a month for a game that I only log on three times a week to raid for three hours a night.

So now I’m playing Tera.

I love it so far, maybe I’ll post my experiences with the dungeons but there’s not going to be anything interesting until I have the time/means to make videos again.

So Much To Do

So little time…

Lack of updates lately? Yes, because I’ve been busy! T_T It also doesn’t help that my power has gone out 3 times in the past 3 days for several hours at a time. In the past week 1.8 came out in Rift, which means a brand new 20man to tackle, then Tera OBT+Headstart, and next week is the GW2 beta. Too bad it is under NDA otherwise I would have screenies everywhere! Plus RL stuff, had an interview for a better paying job and I heard something I have never heard before; They did not feel that a woman could handle the work that came with this position but they had to interview me because they weren’t allowed to discriminate. Word for word. I don’t think I’ve ever felt so disappointed, I’ve never had anything like that said to me. But what can you do I guess, I have plenty to keep me busy to keep my mind off of it and I’ll keep trying for something better.

I Think I’ll Stick to PCs

Within my first two months of dabbling with Xbox live I’ve run into subscription issues and now have to deal with the overwhelming hassle that is contacting their customer support to sort it out. I’m going to sell it anyway, there’s nothing I use it for that I will particularly miss aside from Netflix streaming, but 15$ a month + Netflix.. eh, fuck it. I have a Wii for a reason.

UPDATE:

Well after getting off the phone with someone from the support I can safely say once the time runs out this Xbox is literally going to be hurled into Craigslist at a price where I can make at least some of my money back. They are very good at trying to run the conversation around in an endless circle in an attempt to skip out on any useful information you are trying to get and will just refuse to do anything if you pin them down with a specific question. What’s your name? Preston. I need your full name or an extension for you if something goes wrong. No. What’s the cancellation number for the transaction. There is no transaction number. That’s stupid, there’s is a number and I want it now, I’m tired of dealing with this, just give me the number. (I got it after that spout).

Not only that but he had tried to cancel my account immediately so it would terminate the prepaid time and I would not be able to use it, without refunding me of course, and I finally got him to just turn off automatic renewal. Of course when I checked my account on the website it was not off, and my CC information was not deleted, which was something I had told him to do as well. After 15 minutes of talking to him I accomplished absolutely nothing but wasting my time. I’m glad I had previous experience working in customer service so I could get the information I needed for when this inevitably causes problem for me 3 months from now.

Half the shit this guy said to me I would have never dreamed saying to a caller when I was working in customer service. What a horrible experience, I think I would rather talk to the Indian guy at the F.Y.E.  call center than have to call Xbox support a second time.

I wonder how much money they get from shit like this, accidental charges. I turned automatic renewal off via xbox dashboard but apparently there’s a very specific way you have to do it through the website, well hidden and hard to get to stick. I truly regret trying this service out.

Well, nothing I can do now except try and look forward to all the stuff going on in the next few weeks.

My Poor Wallet Q_Q

Whelp, today is the 10th and I haven’t had a chance to run by Gamestop today to pre order GW2, will do tomorrow for sure, but while Ent and I were looking over the options for the different editions we realized we should have been concerned a bit by the bonus differences from game to game. I’m still positive about the Physical CE, which I will probably claim for myself for the minipet, but it looks like our second game will be standard. The reason being is the digital CE has a 20$ markup for a poor assortment of in-game items, the only valuable one being the Rytlock miniature. The others include 3 single-use items and an elite skill, which I can’t imagine will be too terribly powerful due to the potential for a “Pay-to-win” outcry. People are already tip-toeing with their hopes for this game, after the disappointment that was TOR, the announcement that GW2 was going to be on the console and claim that “they had totally told us about this all along” (not true), and the potentially pay-to-win cash shop (this one I disagree with, GW has proven Arenanet can handle a F2P design very successfully but people who have not played GW seem pretty concerned about it) GW2 does not have quite the hype it did a year ago.

I don’t think Arenanet will re-think their pricing of the Digital CE, but I don’t think it’s worth it personally. Ent doesn’t care nearly as much about miniatures as I do, at least not ones that will be considered pretty common, but rare ones are up his alley: He had a miniature grey giant and CE mini in GW. Maybe a few others, I can’t recall, until his account was hacked and stripped and Arenanet said they couldn’t restore it. It really sucked. :(

In the mean time:

I JUST WANT INFERNAL DAWN TO COME OUT TRION, YOUR WORLD EVENTS SUCK, I’M BORED OF THEM, JUST GIVE US THE RAID!

(Everyone knows you don’t bug test them properly anyway, why wait?)

MMO-FO

Tera’s CBT4 is over and I’m totally exhausted from everything Ent and I were trying to accomplish, including finishing our Storyline quests for about 4 levels ahead of where we were. I also spent most of our elite questing ctrl+z into first person to get screenshots for a submission for Tera’s MMO-FO contest! I’m pretty happy with a couple of caps I was able to get, including my Elin frolicking in the blood of her enemies! Maybe we’ll get lucky and win something?

On a less badass note, <Vindicated> finally got our first Akylios kill that did not drop at least one cleric weapon! Hoofuckinray! (Not really, cleric4life) Druidicar was a bust, it’s not my favorite, it pulls good numbers but I feel with the overall pro vs cons in a raid environment I would rather run Senticar. I will keep the spec for solo-ing EI rares but idk, it’s just not something I feel like sticking with in the long run.

Other than that nothing really, pretty tired. Maybe something interesting will happen before Tera’s next CBT, will be #5 on April 6-8, save the date.

The Only ME3 Endings…

…will be unfortunate ones, whether it be for Shep or fans petitioning for better ones.

This tidbit of information is a few days old but I’ve been sitting it over to decide how I feel. I am less upset than I was after I delved a little deeper into what exactly happened, and while I can understand the situation the Penny Arcade guys found themselves in I do not agree with how they handled it.

Basically the Retake Mass Effect movement was shut down. The reasoning was boiled down to some people believed, either through stupidity or misinformation (and not reading the website before donating) that donating to Child’s Play would directly impact Bioware making a new ending. This of course was not the case, and some people sought to get their money back, which I think is shameful to seek reimbursement from a charity because it wasn’t officially sanctioned by Bioware. There was confusion, but you can’t control what people say about a charity, petition, game, etc.. so if someone lies the only thing you can do it try to set them straight about the situation.

“…(W)hen someone attaches Child’s Play to something we can’t get behind, or leverages your history of generosity and fellow feeling for their own weird bullshit.  So, we need to have something like a policy on this.  This is the best way I can think to say it:

Child’s Play cannot be a tool to draw attention to a cause.  Child’s Play must be the Cause.” -TB

People have attached Child’s Play to other events and movements, but none of them drew the attention Retake Mass Effect has and none of them were shut down because Child’s Play was not the sole cause. PAX was also never publicly derogatory toward any of these groups and didn’t openly disagree with them.

So this is where I get annoyed, regardless of whether or not you agree with other peoples opinions they are entitled to have them. If someone starts a movement that donates money to a charity while raising support for something they believe in, even if you do not, I don’t see what the huge issue is that should prevent the charity from receiving money. Yes, they are taking an extra step past a petition by involving a charity and they are garnering more support for themselves, but they aren’t profiting from it; the charity is, and the children are. The kid sitting in the hospital battling cancer or hopefully recovering from an illness doesn’t care if his Playstation came from a movement YOU might not agree with. If you went up to his mother and told her you cut donations that would have given her child something to lift their spirits while sick because YOU didn’t like the reason people were donating she’d fucking slap you and you would deserve it.

I am extremely disappointed in Penny Arcade, but I am extremely proud of the organizer of Retake Mass Effect. The ending of this movement may have been unfortunate but it did plenty of good while it was active and that counts for a lot.

“We have shown our sincerity and passion. We have brought positive attention to the Retake Mass Effect movement.

Make no mistake. This effort has been victorious.” -Robb, Retake Mass Effect

    • En Masse: White Stallion

    • Gamestop: Arcadian Dapple

Bestbuy is not participating in any pre-order promotions such as beta tests, headstart, and early name reservation. If you would like to participate in these you must pre-order through EnMasse, Amazon, or Gamestop.

The wording on Enmasse’s FAQ regarding retail exclusive mounts is inconsistent and a little confusing, they list the horse under bonuses for standard edition but also as pre-order exclusives. From what I understand the mount will not actually be included in the standard edition/CE, you will need a pre-order code to obtain one. (Not including the Lion that comes with the CE of course)

CoD Fans Must be Magical

This seems to be the golden goose audience of video games these days, more and more devs want Call of Duty fans for their games, even if it’s not a shooter. Sounds stupid? It is.

Why do you want the fan-base of a long standing shooting game for your RPG or survival/horror? I can’t wrap my mind around it myself, I understand the allure of the large audience CoD attracts but what I don’t get is why a dev changes important features of their series to alienate their own fans in an attempt to grab a different audience who won’t give their RPG a second glance anyway just because it has more shooting. They have their game, they don’t care about yours. If CoD added a dragon to their game to try and attract another genre’s audience I wouldn’t be “holy shit a dragon, this game must be amazing and I must play it now!” No! I’d be like “Why should I give a fuck it’s a shooter with a dragon?” and then I wouldn’t give a fuck.

The fact that these devs are completely caught up in the “grass is greener on the other side” mentality is really disappointing, they got to where they are because their fans generally like what they have done, so why do they think changing to appeal to a different audience is a good idea? The rap sheet of previous games who have tried to do the exact same thing should be enough of an indication that it doesn’t work. Dragon Age 2, Duke Nukem, Mass Effect 3? It might not have been the sole reason a lot of these games did very poorly, but I can assure you that the CoD-esque action was not a strong point for them.

Newest installment for this list- Call of Duty: Raccoon City

1.8 From a Warden PoV

Posted by fenikins on March 20, 2012
Posted in: MMORPG. Tagged: 1.8 cleric changes, 1.8 druid changes, 1.8 warden nerf, druidicar, rift, Rift warden nerf. Leave a Comment

For clerics there’s one big change that stands out with patch 1.8, the warden nerf:

WARDEN
* Deluge: The Revitalizing Water HoT now scales based on any HoTs existing on the target, not just ones you cast on them.
* Healing Flood: Now has a total stack size on a target of 1, instead of 1 per caster.
* Overflow: Now heals for less in PvP situations.
* Soothing Stream: Now has a total stack size on a target of 4, instead of 4 per caster.

Those are the upcoming changes for warden on the PTR at the moment and a lot of people are pretty peeved about it from both PVE and PVP standpoints. Nobody likes it when their class/spec gets a nerf be it big or small, and usually I try to shrug it off and wait to see how it turns out in the long run so I don’t jump the gun on the whining. The problem with these changes is that HoTs used to work this way in beta and it was changed to the current state for very good reason. If you’re in a WF with only one warden ofc you will see no difference, however any more and you will notice a sharp drop in effectiveness. One big issue is that a weaker HoT will override a stronger one because it refreshes the time instead of being based on the heal value. The only WF you probably won’t notice much difference in is Port of Scion.

I will say this from experience with this mechanic: unless they refine the system this is a change that will bring back the “Where are all the healers in WFs?” threads.

From a PVE stance it felt a lot like Trion was trying to bring DoL down with the increase to cost and warden up with the increased range, many of us had revisited warden raid healing in situations where we had previously used only -icars. Now with this nerf we are doing some serious thought about what we will be running our single warden as. Most people find they only need one tank healer with the current state of content, but before that it was the norm to run two and we chose a puri/sent and sent/warden, the synergy between those two specs as tank healers is amazing. With ID coming up we’re preparing to run the same build again for progression purposes, but now with the nerf it seems like that’s the only option for anyone who wants to run warden for us.

I don’t think it will detrimental to healing setups by any means, but it is extremely frustrating to have to deal with a nerf like this because of PvP QQ

For the rest of 1.8

Druid DID get some love with bug fixes and skill adjustments that might just bring them up more in line with the other trees.

On the other hand shaman received all of 0 fixes.

It’s not live yet, we’ll see how this goes.

Crashing Meridian Take 2

Well since there’s a bit lul between content for <Vindicated> I decided I would take his opportunity to reclaim my clerics name, since a friend of mine had taken Feni on my main server. This means a week sitting on another server, and I choose very poorly it seems. So to pass the time I crashed Meridian’s Carnival by myself.
